01Railay and the cliffs
Railay is the image most people have of Krabi — a peninsula of towering limestone cliffs reachable only by longtail boat, even though it is attached to the mainland.
It is a world-class rock climbing spot, and the walk to the viewpoint above Railay East is short, steep and worth the mud.
02Ao Nang as a base
Most first-timers stay in Ao Nang. It has the widest choice of restaurants and hotels and is where most island tours depart from.
Krabi Town itself is cheaper and more local, but you will be a 30-minute drive from the beach.
03Island hopping
The four-island tour and the Hong Islands are the two classic day trips. Both are busy in high season, so an early departure makes a real difference.
Koh Lanta is a short ferry away and makes a good quieter add-on if you have an extra few days.
